age of 16 will be allowed in the machine room. We cannot
watch unattended children while you are using the machine,
so please leave little ones at home that day. We appreciate

Use our state-of-the-art APQS quilting machine with its
built-in
stitch regulator to finish your quilt tops yourself, with
anything from a functional all-over design to award winning
custom quilting!
HOW WILL I KNOW HOW TO USE THE MACHINE?
Prior to renting the machine, you must complete a certification
class, where you will learn how to wind and load a bobbin,
thread the machine, load the quilt, and operate the machine.
Some quilting techniques are covered. After this class, you
may want to plan on using at least the major part of one
rental session, or even a couple rental sessions, for developing
your skills. (Class Fee: $65. Check schedule for available
times.)
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN MY RENTAL FEE?
- Use of a cleaned and oiled, state-of-the art APQS long-arm
quilting machine with a stitch regulator.
- Zippers are attached to the canvas so that you can
“zip through” the loading process! (Requires purchase of
a complementary set of three zippers that you will baste
to your quilt top and backing fabric. Instruction provided
in the Machine Certification class.)
- You may use our bobbin cases, although we highly
recommend that you purchase your own case(s) so that you
can keep them adjusted to the threads you most frequently
use.
- Use of the bobbin winder if you want to wind your own
bobbins (instead of purchasing pre-wound bobbins).
WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED?
Needles and thread, backing fabric, batting. You must purchase
needles from us so that we are assured you have the correct
needle for the machine. You may purchase thread and/or prewound
bobbins from us, or you may use your own thread if we approve
it for use in our machine (no poor-quality thread, no glazed
thread, etc.).
WHAT IF I HAVE TROUBLE LOADING MY QUILT OR ADJUSTING
THE MACHINE?
The certification class will train you on these topics,
but we understand that it’s sometimes necessary to actually
do something on your own before you feel confident. That’s
why we’ll be happy to refresh your memory, check your work,
or answer questions that come up.
WHAT CAN I FINISH IN ONE RENTAL SESSION?
It will depend on how fast and how heavily you quilt. Once
you’re more experienced, you should be able to quilt a full-to-queen-size
quilt with an all-over pattern in a single session, especially if you use the zipper system!
WHAT IF MY QUILT ISN’T FINISHED AT THE END OF MY
SESSION?
You will learn in class about how the zipper system can
help in this situation. You may also be able to extend your
session if no one else has reserved the machine. (Additional
charges will apply.)
MAY I RENT THE MACHINE FOR LESS THAN A FULL SESSION?
The machine can only be reserved for a full session. However,
when it is not in use, we’re happy to let you use it for
less than a full session on a walk-in basis. The minimum
charge for this type of rental is $25, which covers one hour
of use. Every 15 minutes (or portion thereof) after the first
hour is charged at a rate of $4.
